Product Description

The Panasonic HDC-HS9 60GB 3CCD Hard Disk Drive/SD Hybrid Full-High Definition Camcorder with 1920x1080-Pixel Recording features the best of both worlds with an extra-large 60GB internal hard disk drive HDD and SD storage  technology, providing up to up to 23 hours on the hard drive. But you can add up to an additional six hours of recording (also in HE mode) onto a 16GB* SDHC memory card (sold seperately).

The 1920x1080 Full-HD Recording  capability in this camcorder will astound you. It records horizontal pixels at an HD resolution of up to 1920 pixels, which results in a total of around 2,070,000 pixels. And with progressive scanning, our hi-def camcorders provide twice as much data per picture as conventional interlace scanning. This means you get breathtaking images with exceptional resolution and detail. Combine that with a 1080/24p format, which lets you capture scenes with a rich, film-like quality, and you can see why Panasonic full-HD camcorders take visual expression to the next level.

With its Face Detection Functionality — offered for the first time for recording moving pictures with a video camera — Panasonic makes it easy to capture beautiful faces and clear backgrounds even in dim or backlit scenes. This new function, which can detect up to five faces at once, automatically adjusts the exposure and smooths skin tones according to the ambient brightness, so faces are bright and easy to see.

The new Intelligent Shooting Guide function helps you get magnificent shots by displaying a text message in the LCD monitor, telling you which settings are best for the current shooting conditions. With Intelligent Selection Playback, poor or inadvertent shots (such as shots of the ground or overly dark scenes) are skipped and all normal scenes are played while viewing.

Panasonic's Advanced Optical Image Stabilization (O.I.S.) suppresses the effects of han

Great camera, now fully Mac compatible!

Reviewer: M. Evangelist,
As some of the earlier reviews have pointed out, this awesome little camera suffered from lack of support in Apple's editing applications like iMovie 08.

Well that's all in the past. With the release of OS 10.5.3 and QuickTime 7.5 a few days ago, the HDC-HS9 (and the non-hard drive HDC-SD9 as well) are now fully compatible. You can easily import and edit your HD movies in iMovie, in all the camera's formats.

I love this camera. My only complaint is that spare batteries are absurdly expensive. Other than that, it's fantastic.

This has one of the best picture qualities ever with the three CCD's on it. I love using it and have recorded numerous shots just with the one 60 Gig hard drive on it even though you can add a memory chip to it. The battery last a long time as well. I would have added a mic input to it though then it would have been perfect for the novice film maker. However, the sound quality of the camera is great. I would buy this product again. Also, they have great customer service.
Amazing Camera but only High Definition

HI purchased this camera, great picture quality when light is good, also you need to move it slowly. AVCHD editing software needs to be purchased separately, overall all a lot of bang for the buck

Easy to use to record pictures or video. Video of high quality even if converted to MPEG 2 format. Only concern is that the free editing software included is not real user friendly, but a free trial of a more advanced software is included...
Solid performer

Bought this camera when it was freshly on the market. Took something of a punt with it, but on paper it looked to be what I needed.

My need was a device that could reliably capture the arrival of my 1st child. After having used it for over a year, I can honestly say that it hasn't let me down once.

The picture quality, the sound quality and the ease of use, have all lived up to or exceeded expectations.

I have used many features on the camera, but a couple that I've found repeated use for have been:
- Intelligent Contrast: Helps in difficult lighting conditions;
- Pre-record: Commences recording a few seconds before you press record button and fantastic to prevent you missing that special moment.
- Auto-modes: When conditions are detected which could benefit from a particular setting, the camera displays a recommendation about it and cues the command for you. All you need do is press one button to accept.

If you want solid features at a reasonable price consider this camera closely. I would be happy to consider it if I was in the market to buy again.
